ford ka radio code

Hi everyone,

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me with my Ford 89 Capri radio code.

The local dealer brushed me off unless I was willing to pay $35 for it. I can't quite justify that for a such an old radio/tape deck.

Serial: 577055

There is a Ford sticker with Dolby licensing info and these numbers, no indication as to what they mean:
89JA-18B865-AB
PU-9200F
286-7237-00

I noticed the serial doesn't begin with a letter, like other Ford codes I've seen. It's def the stock radio, according to the car manual. I found the serial stamped into the back plate of the radio.

I got hold of a decoder myself and I got 2496 out of it. No such luck however as only numbers 1-6 have buttons, so i couldnt input the code. Tried all other buttons but no effect. it must be a 4 digit code from 1-6.

If anyone has even a clue, I would be most thankful.

Thanks Regworts for the quick response & advice.

I"ll give it a bit of time before inquiring further... I just hope it doesn't require a decoding service, or I might have to be the proud owner of The Most Secure Radio In The World.

Hi there, can anyone help me? The car radio is locked - I took it out and the serial is M021543. Also the pincer type things you use to get the radio are stuck, is it just brute for or is there a trick to get them out? Any help much appreciated - I'm really a car person!!
