blaupunkt unlock code HELP !

Hi. My first post. So apologies for any discretion. I have not used my radio (Blaupunkt Cassandra SQR 49; BP8460X1480912; 7648460010) for several years after I removed the battery as I was not successful at entering the code and a number of other failed attempts to get it working, since.
I am now trying again; the Mercedes dealer told me to get another radio from Halfords; now trying this forum. I have the radio code (2550) and the original operating instructions manual.
Issues: 1. Whenever I switch on the radio, nothing appears on digital display. 2. What do I enter when the 4th number of the code is zero? 3. The manual talks about the need to modify the unit after 16 failed attempts - how do I modify the unit?
Any help with these issues and any advice that helps me recover the radio would be very much appreciated - I love driving my 22 year old Merc 190 - but it would be better if the radio worked.
