The stereo is not accepting the code "0553", it was showing 8 attempts remaining now 6 attempts are left, because I tried it twice any ideas?

My ex has left me & my kids with a banged up astra, with a Philips sc201 stereo without a code!
I have visited other sites, but keep being prompted to pay for the code or to send the stereo away, please, please can someone help....with little money and the headach from the kids, I would really appreciate if someone can help\assist in obtaining the code and instruction on how to enter it....
