Bmw e36 business code wait

Don't know if anyone knows about this, but i have the above in my bmw, i have the code but when i connect power rather than going to code ---- it just goes to code wait and does not change even after over an hour - any ideas anyone, i'm stumped. I have not put in the wrong code as i have not been able to get that far!

You may have to leave it SWITCHED ON...UNDISTURBED for much longer than one hour.

Some radios takes as long as 24 hours or more as it depends on how many wrong codes have been entered previously.
