    Bluetooth 5 Has Arrrived

    Bluetooth 5 Has Arrrived

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has officially adopted Bluetooth 5 as the latest version of the Bluetooth core specification. Key updates to Bluetooth 5 include longer range, faster speed, and larger broadcast message capacity, as well as improved interoperability and coexistence with other wireless technologies.

"This means whole-home and building coverage, as well as new use cases for outdoor, industrial, and commercial applications will be a reality. With the launch of Bluetooth 5, we continue to evolve to meet the needs of IoT developers and consumers while staying true to what Bluetooth is at its core: the global wireless standard for simple, secure, connectivity."

Notable updates include four times range, two times speed, and eight times broadcast message capacity. Longer range powers whole home and building coverage, for more robust and reliable connections. Higher speed enables more responsive, high-performance devices. Increased broadcast message size increases the data sent for improved and more context relevant solutions.

Bluetooth 5 also includes updates that help reduce potential interference with other wireless technologies to ensure Bluetooth devices can coexist within the increasingly complex global IoT environment. Bluetooth 5 delivers all of this while maintaining its low-energy functionality and flexibility for developers to meet the needs of their device or application.

Consumers can expect to see products built with Bluetooth 5 within two to six months

Nokia D1C pricing leak, could launch at Rs 10,000: Report
Nokia D1C is expected to come in two variants differing in RAM, memory and camera features

        OnePlus 3T (Gunmetal, 64GB)Buy from amazon 29999
Nokia D1C is definitely the most talked about device in the Finnish smartphone company's resurgence. Nokia D1C has leaked multiple times in the past and the device has been rumoured to launch in two variants. Nokia is expected to announce D1C alongside its flagship smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona.

Nokia recently formalised the licensing deal with Finland-based HMD Global, which is bringing Nokia back to the fore. Under the licensing deal, HMD Global will announce Nokia-branded smartphones and tablets based on Android and the devices will be manufacturing by FIH (a subsidiary of Foxconn). While Nokia is rumoured to announce two flagship, the talking point is the budget offering dubbed D1C.

According to a new report by NokiaPowerUser, Nokia D1C is expected to launch at a starting price of Rs 9,999. HMD Global has been maintaining a stance that Nokia will make its comeback purely on quality construction and competitive pricing. At Rs 9,999, Nokia could take the market by surprise and go against the likes of Xiaomi and Lenovo - the dominant players in that price segment.

Nokia is planning to announce D1C in two variants with 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM options. The 2GB RAM variant will probably be priced Rs 9,999 while the 3GB RAM version will be priced Rs 12,999. NokiaPowerUser report also notes that this price is not from its usual source and needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Nokia D1C is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 processor and will run Android 7.0 Nougat based on Z-Launcher UI. The smartphones are reported to come with only 16 gigabytes of onboard storage.

Nokia D1C with 2GB RAM is likely to sport a 5-inch Full HD display while the 3GB RAM variant will get a 5.5-inch Full HD display. There will be 13MP and 16MP rear camera respectively on both variants while the front shooter will be a standard 8MP sensor. Nokia D1C is the new favourite for internet leaks and has turned from a giant tablet to smartphone in the course of these leaks. We will get our first look at the device agt MWC and Nokia is definitely making it sound worth all the wait.

            Goodbye CyanogenMod, Hello Lineage Android

            Goodbye CyanogenMod, hello Lineage Android

CyanogenMod is no more.In a post on the official CyanogenMod blog, we're told that the current state of everything Cyanogen means it's no longer feasible to continue and that the best path forward requires change. Nobody should be surprised after recent events within the Cyanogen Inc. parent company and today's announcement that it has reached the end of the road and will shut down operations.

The puts some hurdles in front of the community-driven CM that can't be jumped while holding on to the legacy name and structure. Servers and infrastructure are going to soon disappear, nobody is at the helm to direct the way forward and the very name Cyanogen itself is available to the right bidder. CyanogenMod depended on Cyanogen, Inc. A void at the very top isn't going to work.

But the ideas behind CM aren't dead. The latest version has been released and updated to the current Android Security Bulletin patches, and mountains of source code are in the process of being forked into something new — the Lineage Android Distribution.

Lineage Android will use everything that CM has made to build a better grassroots alternative to the software from phone manufacturers. Even more important than the code and assorted software eight years of CM has built is the spirit of people who want to make something different and better. And it lives on under a new name with a new future.

Seeing CM say goodbye is hard. They've been here in one way or another since the beginning and we've watched them reach both the highs and lows that accompany any long journey. They embody the spirit of what Android is once you strip away the dollar signs and corporations and make it about us. The users, the builders, the dreamers. We are CM. We're losing a small part of ourselves today.

But we can look forward to the future with the Linage project, and do everything we can to keep those dreams and that spirit alive. To everyone involved, We wish you the best.

Earlier this month, it was reported that some Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users started receiving December security updates. The update started rolling out in select countries including India.

It's official: Nokia 6 Android 7.0 smartphone announced with aluminum body

HMD Global - the company developing Nokia-branded handsets, built by Foxconn under license by the Finnish tech giant - has officially announced details of its first Android smartphone, which will arrive early this year. The announcement follows a leak earlier today which referred to the device as the 'Nokia 6', and that name has now been confirmed.

"The Nokia 6 marks the first step towards Nokia's ambition to set a new standard in design, material quality and manufacturing innovation across every tier of its products, by building on the hallmarks of a true Nokia phone experience," HMD said today.

The company has previously emphasized that it has no interest in promoting its new smartphones with superlative, top-of-the-line specs. Instead, it intends to compete in the increasingly congested mobile market by offering "premium quality" and "competitive pricing."

However, if you were hoping to get your hands on the new Nokia 6 soon, you're out of luck for now unless you live in China. HMD explained:

The decision by HMD to launch its first Android smartphone into China is a reflection of the desire to meet the real world needs of consumers in different markets around the world. With over 552 million smartphone users in China in 2016, a figure that is predicted to grow to more than 593 million users by 2017, it is a strategically important market where premium design and quality is highly valued by consumers.
HMD hasn't yet published official photos of the device, but a video spotted by Android Police appears to show the Nokia 6 in action, including the front-facing fingerprint scanner previously rumored:

                    Nokia 6 Video

Key confirmed specs of the Nokia 6 include:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 wth X6 LTE modem
5.5-inch hybrid in-cell display with Full HD (1920x1080px) resolution and 2.5D Corning Glass
Display polarizer layer to improve screen clarity in direct sunlight
                    4GB RAM
                    64GB onboard storage
16MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus, LED flash and f/2.0 aperture
                    8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture
Dual-amplifiers with 6dB louder volume than a regular amp
Dolby Atmos support for "powerful, moving audio"
                    Android 7.0 Nougat

However, while the Nokia 6 will debut early this year, it's not yet clear if will eventually go on sale in other countries beyond China, as HMD says it only be available to purchase there from retailer JD.com. It will be priced at 1,699 CNY (roughly $250 USD) - although if the handset does make its way to other markets, local pricing may well change in those parts of the world.

But a leaked slide from a company presentation recently revealed that HMD is planning to launch as many as seven Nokia-branded Android handsets this year. HMD CEO Juho Sarvikas said today that the company is on "a mission to deliver the best possible smartphone experience, with a beautiful premium design touch, to everyone, at every point." But he also said that the company is looking forward "to unveiling further products in the first half of this year."

"The Nokia 6 marks the first step on our journey," Sarvikas added, "with more to come in 2017."

Nokia Heart Android Phone With Snapdragon 430 SoC Spotted in Benchmark Listing

Nokia Heart, a new Nokia Android phone, has been spotted in benchmark listing, suggesting that it may be revealed at the MWC 2017 event next month. The Nokia Heart smartphone has been tipped in GFXBench benchmark listing and is believed to be a toned down version of the Nokia 6 smartphone that was launched earlier this month.

According to GFXBench listing, the Nokia Heart will feature a 5.2-inch HD display and will be powered by the same Snapdragon 430 processor that also powers the Nokia 6 smartphone. Other rumoured Nokia Heart specifications include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, 13-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. The handset is said to run on Android 7.0 Nougat. The Nokia heart listing was first spotted by Mobile Ka Price.

Considering, HMD Global priced the Nokia 6, which was the first smartphone with Nokia branding in three years, at CNY 1,699 (roughly Rs. 17,000) in China, we can expect the Nokia Heart's price to be slightly lower than that of Nokia 6. As always, the specifications and details spotted at benchmark listings are not usually the final ones and may see changes ahead of the official launch by the company.

For the upcoming MWC 2017, HMD Global, the company that owns rights to the Nokia brand, has already slotted an event at the trade show as well, where it is expected to announce few more Nokia-Android phones. According to the official invite, the Nokia event will take place in Barcelona on February 26, and it will kick off at 4:30pm local time (9pm IST).

Last week, Nokia 6 received tremendous response from consumers in China in its first flash sale as the smartphone reportedly went out of stock in a minute. The company recently also hinted that it may be working on a Snapdragon 835-based smartphone.

The Likely Reason Why iCloud Activation Lock Status Tool Has Been Taken Down

Apple has removed an online tool which could be used by potential buyers of used iPhones and iPads in order to ensure that they are not lost or stolen. The Activation Lock Status website was removed at some point over the last few days, with no official word from Apple as to why it was removed.

Before its demise, the Activation Lock Status tool allowed users to put an iPhone or iPad’s IMEI or serial number into the web site to ensure that it did not have an active activation lock applied.

If this was the case then the chances were high that the device had been lost or stolen, and buyers would know not to make a purchase based on that information. Without the tool, potential buyers of used iPhones and iPads have little chance of knowing that their purchase is legitimate before handing over their money.

The reason for the tool’s removal from the internet – attempts to visit the site return an error – is not immediately obvious. However, the reason may be related to a hack which allowed the use of an unlocked device’s serial number to be used in order to fool Apple’s own systems into allowing a previously locked device to be activated.

The hack simply required that an invalid serial number have a digit or two changed in order to discover a valid serial number. This was then used to unlock a previously locked device, allowing it to be registered as if nothing was wrong.

This may also explain what was previously thought to be a bug which saw some users inexplicably have their devices locked with unknown PINs and account credentials. Those situations required Apple’s input to correct. It’s possible that, if related, this may explain the tool’s removal.

Whatever the reason, we can only hope that a replacement system will arrive soon, allowing used device buyers to have the peace of mind they require when making such a purchase.
