V170 tracfone

I recently buy Rocker Dongle from unlockcellular.com, I have latest versions of the software and drivers from Rocker Dongle support area.

I have unlocked many motorola ODM phones with ODM Rocker v1.18 and betas v1.19 and v1.20 without problems.

Except for this new Motorola V170 from TracFone USA. I connect the cable to the serial port on the dongle (RJ45 which I used with all previous phones), press connect on right COM port (COM4) press the power button on V170 (I have tried with all COM speeds), phone detected but:

Check if phone already booted
Power ON phone shortly
Phone detected
Boot Loading Error


Doing the same procedure with V172:

Check if phone already booted
Power ON phone shortly
Phone detected
Boot Succesfully Loaded
Calypso lite
Flash size : 8388608
IMEI : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes sir, i use cdma box with rs232 that is like profilic and work perfect.
Remember you are a profeccional, but some of we aren´t. Many people here only take jobs time to unlock phones and not desolder or remove "cpu" i know legija can make solution like "c139 solution i posted, without TP" i belive he gona found the way to write into new boot phones..

I just have the cables that come with the dongle:

Mini USB cable
V66 USB cable
UniBox Adapter cable
F3 RJ45 cable
J100 RJ45 cable
T191 RJ45 cable

I am not a pro so if you could point me in the right direction where can I learn more about prolific and ftdi cables, I don't think it will be available in my country but hopefully unlockcellular.com have it. The weird thing is that I don't think is a cable problem as I have say before other phones work flawlessly but who knows maybe some phones requires those special cables.

The phone boots OK to tracfone firmware I just want to unlock it and better if can replace the firmware.

in market exist 2 usual usb-rs232 convertor
with ftdi chip inside(ft232bm) and with prolific chip inside(pl2303)
most boxes have ftdi chip inside.
but some boxes(like siemens boxes) and some cables(motorola,sharp,nokia) have prolific chip inside.
exist in market usb-t191 cable with prolific chip.
just ask reseiler about this cable.

This last line (UART Disable) means that the serial is disabled in the phone?
Maybe that is the problem. Can it be enabled?

Ok, excellent explanation, now I get it, so the Rocker Dongle comes with FTDI chip instead of the Prolific chip?

My computer have normal serial ports (DB9), is not better and straighforward to just make a cable from DB9 to T191 instead of using USB to serial chip converters?
