  • RIFF Box v1/v2 solution for CLK line problem

    Hi,
As many of users faced problems with CLK line, for which solution was to remove CLK resistor between CPU and eMMC chip on target board, here is simple solution to overcome this problem:

For RIFF Box v1 (black box):

    - Add pull up resistor from VCCQ (1.8v) to CLK line

Value starting from 4.7K (worked on qualcomm) down to100 Ohms (for some MTK). Its better to start from 4.7K and test with decreasing value until successful connection is established.

    ...

Following schematics can be used for both v1 and v2 box, two variants with

    different IC-s (buffers/line drivers)

    SN74LVC1G34 and SN74LVC1G125

4.7 K resistor is optional, in case that on some boards stronger drive is required, pull up resistor value can be determined by experimenting with as low as 200 Ohms.

          I think so,
but first try the other option:

"- Add pull up resistor from VCCQ (1.8v) to CLK line

Value starting from 4.7K (worked on qualcomm) down to 200 Ohms (for some MTK). Its better to start from 4.7K and test with decreasing value until successful connection is established."

Try with a little bit low frequency clk and adjust I/O voltage to 3.3V.

                    Best regards,

That adapter is tested and works.

                        1. Needs some mod - add 100 ohm resistor between VCCQ line and CLK signal.
                        2. USB cable required for power on adapter, must be connected to same PC where RIFF Box is connected (not to charger)

Adapter has microswitches for pull up on Dat0 and CMD, (blue) and for VCC (2.8 and 3.3) and VCCQ (1.8, 2.6.3.3) levels.

                            Hello,
i have the same Problem, with Riff Box2

I tried first direct EMMC method with soldering, short lines to the EMMC. (BGA163)
I played with the Voltage and the Clock Frequency, nothing works.

So now i buyed the E-Mate X Adapter, same Chip same ERROR.
Now i thinks whats going on with this Sh**. EMMC faulty?

Okay i go to my trashbox, other Tablet (Lenovo )EMMC desolderd and cleaned (BGA221)

Put it into the E-Mate X Adapter. (before i changed the adapter to BGA221)
Same ERROR (Connecting to the SD/eMMC Card Failed (ERR[006E], POS[0003]) )
Her i played also with the Voltage and the Frequency in Direct EMMC Tab.

                            My Setup is "PC---->USB-Cable---->Riff Box2---->White Riff2 Adapter---->E-Mate X" Like the Picture but with E-Mate X

So now i have no idea, where the Problem is.
I have the Riff Box 2 since release but never workt with it.
Any Ideas? And THX for answer.

Emate-X should be connected to box directly, no adapter. It's made that way so it fits properly if shifted to the right side of back port. There is no science in that, but - it can be tricky to get connection with chip if balls aren't present.
Other thing is, it's important to connect corresponding connector on adapter and chip needs to be oriented properly.
