Hubby just tried and said No didn't work, but to say it has 3 dashes on the screen does this mean anything?

Try 0809
Three bars on the screen means it is codelocked, so you may have to leave it switched on for up to three hours before code entry is possible. When entering the Code number, the first digit can only be a "1" or a "0" and the zero is signified by a blank screen.
