  • JTAG DCC Read Error Samsung i8190

Hello guys. I am having problems while reading through JTAG on the Galaxy S3 mini (i8190). The error/warning that I am receiving is this one:

    Open serial port...OK
    Connecting to the RIFF Box...OK
Firmware Version: 1.45 (RIFFBOX2), JTAG Manager Version: 1.69
    Selected Resurrector: [Samsung I8190 V1.0.4836.65460]

    Connecting to the dead body...OK
WARNING: Connection via USB failed with Code: 0xC000FF01
Detected dead body ID: 0x000000CC - IGNORED!
Set I/O Voltage reads as 1.82V, TCK Frequency is RTCK
Adaptive Clocking RTCK Sampling is: [Sample at 9 MHz]
    Settings Code: 0x0401000F000000000000000400000000

    Resurrection sequence started.
    Establish communication with the phone...FAILED
ERROR(0x59): Communication is not established. Terminating.

On my setup I am using VR-Table, external power supply with 3.8V 1.5A (not USB cable, not battery of course).

I just want to read the memory (not repair, phone is working). Do I need to connect all 8 pins from the attached picture? How can I solve that communication error?

Possibly ROM2 erased (Boot) so MCU wont start.
Or, judging by garbled MCU ID, connection is bad.
If I remember well, these phones is to be connected using TCK, not RTCK.

Ok, I will re-check. I actually connected both pins TCK and RTCK.... so it should be only one of them connected?

Both can be connected... But you only select one in the Riff software manager settings.

            FLASH1 chip not recognized

Hello, so now I am able to "Connect & Get ID", "Analyze JTAG Chain", "Halt the Target", but still I receive an error on the DCC Read/Write tab while trying to "Read Memory":

WARNING: DCC Loader was unable to initialize FLASH1 chip. Error code: 0x00000035

ERROR: Cannot Automatically Determine the Selected FLASH1 Chip's size. Terminating.

Is it because of the NTU8500 Drivers? I am not able to install them under Windows 10.

Usually the error "unable to initialize flash chip 1" indicates that the Emmc chip is dead and needs replacement

eMMC is working, when I plug the USB cable, phone is detected in Windows 10 exactly as GT-I8190 and I can see the Android UI in the phone screen. I am using only TCK as Legija suggested, otherwise (with RTCK connected), I cannot get Device info, ID, etc.

One thing is that I cannot change/update the drivers to NTU8500. If I uninstall the current ones for i8190, computer automatically re-installs them, either online or offline.

                Any other suggestions?

If phonew is alive dont connect usb cable, use battery and power button instead.

I am using external power supply, now trying without USB connection at all, I receive the coming error on DCC Read/Write:

Attached is the JTAG Read/Write tab. Any suggestions. Do I need to halt the target at some point?

UPDATE: DCC Read process starts, but after a few seconds the phone reboots automatically and the reading process stops.

How to stop the phone from rebooting itself?

                        Try lower TCK speeds also.

Ok, I have tried lower speeds at 1MHz and even 400kHz but still, the phone reboots every 10-15 seconds right after I hit "Read Memory" on DCC tab.

                            Solved - Completed

So after stability issues, the trick was to keep pressing the phone power button for 20+ seconds when the reading process started, then it continued reading properly. And yes, the best was to lower the Clock Speed to 4MHz. Thanks guys. Attached you can find my hardware setup and the successful reading, "just" a bit more than 4 hours.
