RIFF JTAG Manager v1.82

Whats new:


- Fixed bug when existent PKG's pinout picture was not displayed due to "Interface Pinout" button was hidden
- Added new pkg licensing scheme, which allows now to use any PKG file createad by any user for any other user.
Root PKG License is required for edit permission. To share own PKG file with other users the Root PKG License is not required now.
- Added altermative method of detecting the storage size for Qualcomm Firehose Loaders which do not support GetStorageInfo command
- Added Qualcomm DMSS protocol support

- Added support for USB connection method to Package Editor wizard.



Since this version is introduced, any user can create and share repair packages (*.riffpkg).
We will prepare comprehensive instructions with videos on how to use package editor and how to share created files in short time.

As already announced before, we finished initial MTK via USB support.
We developed own code and haven't used BROM.dll, in order to fully integrate JTAG Manager functions with eMMC plugin functions.



Note that our goal is not "firmware/scatter flasher" but oriented to full flash access, content extracting and partitions manipulation.
If You want to flash firmware, simply use SP Flash Tool


For start, introduction:


MTK phones have two ways of enumerating on USB.
- MTK preloader
- MTK Bootrom


MTK preloader is self explanatory, if preloader is alive it will enumerate on USB upon each connection if device is powered off. (Some phones need key combo to start it)



MTK Bootrom (MTK USB Port) is enumerated if preloader is erased or flash chip not present/dead.

MTK Bootrom can be forced on some phones by holding vol- and connecting powered off, or without battery, phone to USB cable and PC port.

For proper boot from MTK Bootrom mode, preloader must be loaded as external file, along with DA.


To create custom profile/package, follow simple steps:


- Click "Create Repair Package" on "Box Service" TAB
- Click "Add action"
- Select "Establish USB Connection"
- Select "Mediatek Bootrom" and "Mediatek DA Protocol", "eMMC" and of course load DA and preloader files. (preloader can be from firmware, or bootpartition 1 dump)
- Click "OK" and "Save Package".
If You with to add write actions, select "Write to flash via USB/ISP" and use eMMC plugin to automatically select partitions and address.

I'm verry happy to see that you added mediatek support.
Did you know that spflashtool sources suggest that we can also modify/read efuse regsiters and such stuff.
I think this would be a great addition to riffbox since we deal with low-level stuff.

Since we introduced SDMMC functionality over JTAG port into v1 RIFF Box hardware, there were some reports on connectivity problems with multi-TAP mcu-s.
To fix those errors took some time, but now it should work much more stable on JTAG operations then it used even before SDMMC addition.


RIFF Box Firmware 1.52

-Improved RIFFBOX1 CPLD Firmware (old version is 0xA1B6, new version is 0xA1B7).
JTAG stability improved, fixed some JTAG module issues which were reported to appear after the SDMMC controller was added to CPLD Firmware in 1.48 version.


Update procedure is same as before, simply click "Firmware Update" and wait for process to finish. Of course, update port must be installed and driver signature enforcement disabled.


Possible errors:


- CPLD error: WRID
Can happen if there are cold soldering on CPLD chip. To resolve it, rehot bottom side of board, large XILINX chip with enough flux.
- CPLD error: ERSE
Repeat firmware update procedure.




This firmware version for v2 RIFF Box (white box) has no changes other than version number for compatibility with JTAG Manager.

Error 0x44 halt operation failed.


Can be due to badly connected points (many users simply ignore NRST or even GDN) or because of HW problem on device.


Can You please precisely describe which pinout You used and what pins You have connected ? With hi res photo would be best.
